Early Show: Gizmos to Help Parents of Young Children
A few weeks back, The Early Show did a segment with the authors of the new book “The Baby Gizmo Buying Guide” (buy it now!). I really think it is time someone did something like this for us parents because there really is so much on the market and when you have a young child (especially if it’s your first) you think they need just about everything you see on the shelves in the stores. Here are some of the items they discussed:
Video Monitors - A lot of people have complained that these are more of a “luxury” item that could never be worth the money. The “experts” said that
it’s time for parents to reconsider and give these a chance. Rather than risk disturbing your baby every time you want to check on them, this modern convenience can allow caregivers to do a visual check on the baby without even getting out of their bed! The best part? They even have night vision! They also pointed to the fact that these can be useful long after your baby grows out of it since they can be used as front door home monitoring systems, nanny cams, even a way to spy on pre-teens.
Follow Me Fred - This item launched at Toy Fair 2008. It is a self-rolling little puppy that is used to encourage babies to crawl. He barks, pants, and plays music. He’s bright and colorful (and only $19.95).
Shopping Cart Cover - I consider this a must-have item and, apparently, the experts agree! Shopping carts are really, really filthy and while your baby is still young, they will likely bend down and suck on the handle. Not only have people touched, coughed and sneezed on this surface but they have also handled raw meat. It’s actually pretty dangerous. They suggested “Cuter Than a Duck’s Butt” covers and, I must admit, they are pretty adorable. Click here to view or purchase!
